THE local branch of the Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) is the latest group hoping to cash in on the Royal Bank of Scotland’s Community Force fund.

And members are hoping they can secure enough votes to win the £6,000 award.

A national organisation, the local branch of SOBS was started last year and meets monthly in Old Gala House, offering support to people who have been touched by a suicide.

Coordinator Gwen Crew told the Hawick News: “We’re hoping to support more people in the future by going mobile because the Borders is such a huge area, which stretches from as far south as Berwick to as far north as Peebles.

“The money would help cover expenses for the next year or so.”

The group is also keen to employ a full-time councillor, which would also help with the bereavement process.

To vote for the project, log on to http://communityforce.rbs.co.uk/project/290 or telephone 0800 2100 245. Voting closes on October 24.
