Ba’ clash ends in draw

The annual Denholm Ba’ game took place on Monday afternoon amid some occasional wintry showers, however, the weather did not diminish the spirit of the game.

As usual, the first ba’ was very keenly contested and after an hour of play it was Kris Rowley who managed to evade several Uppies’ tackles to run off the green and down to the hail point. Mick Cairns evened the score by smuggling ba’ number two up. Doug Aitchison then somehow spirited away the next ba’, also up. ‘Tattie’ Elder scored for the Doonies after some good work from ‘Skelly’ Skeldon.

Yid Scott regained the Doonies’ advantage when he outpaced the closely-following Neil Douglas for another hail. The next ba’ disappeared moments after being thrown off and mysteriously found its way up via Wullie Amos’s pocket.

Scott Mabon got his name on the scoresheet, showing a “dirty pair of boots” when running away from the chasing Doonies to secure another score for the Uppies. William Bathgate squared the gamne when escaping from the little green and finding his way to the Doonie hail albeit via a cross-country route! So ended a good day’s play with honours even and a fair result. Final score: Doonies 4 Uppies 4.
