Assault accused couldn’t make it into dock

A SHERIFF was forced to convene a court in the cells to deal with a Hawick man.

Kevin Drummond went downstairs at Selkirk Sheriff Court into the cell complex, where a lawyer for the accused, who had been held over the weekend, said he had injuries which meant he was unable to negotiate the steps leading to the dock.

Twenty-four-year-old Alistair Christie, of Trinity Street, pleaded not guilty to assaulting two security officers at Borders General Hospital and demanding treatment by shouting and swearing on Saturday.

He was granted bail with special conditions for trials earmarked this autumn.
