DENHOLM Ride-out will only go ahead if at least 30 volunteers come forward.
That was the message from Denholm Feuars’ and Householders’ Council – along with a stark warning that if enough names are not given in time for a meeting on April 19, the ride-out will be cancelled.
Secretary Lynn Ferguson said: “We need volunteers to come forward to help us with parking, marshaling and tidying up, and quite simply if we don’t get enough people we can’t go ahead.
“In the past we have paid local bodies to help out, but this year we have £2,000 ring-fenced to pay for expenses such as the extra toilets which we are doubling to 12, the pipe band and saxhorn band, and the Cornet’s gift, and if it was a wet day and we didn’t get the people we cannot afford to do that.”
She continued: “We have worked out we need at least 30 people to help us, and that doesn’t need to just be Denholm people, we are quite happy for people from Hawick to offer a few hours as well.”
Mrs Ferguson added: “Although people have voted yes for the ride-out, it won’t happen without enough help.”
Anyone willing to offer their services is asked to attend the meeting in the village hall on Tuesday, April 19, at 7pm, or give their details to Mrs Ferguson at the post office.
