THE Community Hospital is losing five beds during the summer as part of a money-saving exercise.
The decision has been taken by NHS Borders as part of a required two per cent saving each year, and is being rolled out to the region's three other community hospitals.
The move will reduce the number of hospital beds in Hawick to 19 over the summer months.
NHS Borders chief executive John Glennie, told the Hawick News: "We are closing a small number of beds for the summer to save money, and make sure we are as efficient as possible.
"There is less demand during this time, and it means we will have more resources for the winter."
