HAWICK MSP John Lamont has called on Enterprise Minister Jim Mather to make a trip to the town his top priority.
The Tory politician spoke out after the announcement by bedding manufacturer Slumberdown that it is to axe 16 jobs at its Burnfoot factory.

Mr Lamont said: "This is bad news for the workers and their families and another blow to Hawick. It is important that everything possible is done to support the workers who have been affected to help them find alternative employment.

"The Enterprise Minister recently accepted my invitation to meet with the Hawick Development Committee to discuss what can be done to help stabilise the local economy.

"This dreadful news now makes Mr Mather's visit even more important."
