Sentence deferred on cannabis man

A man who produced over £1,500 worth of cannabis at his home, had sentence deferred until July 3 for reports.
At Jedburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday, Stephen Carver, 38, of Fisher Avenue, appeared on indictment and admitted the offence which happened between June 23 and August 23 last year.

Graham, 39, of Crumhaughhill Road, admitted giving false information at a local solicitors' office on May 28 last year and attempting to obtain civil Legal Aid by fraud.

"He applied for Legal Aid, failing to declare he was living with a partner who was working," explained Procurator fiscal Viki Welton.

Defence agent Alison Marshall said there had been no loss to the Scottish Legal Aid Board.


A 22-year-old who committed a breach of the peace in a Hawick nightclub just three days after his release from prison, was fined £150.

Malcolm Liddell of Brighton Place, Canonbie, was also excluded from Diesels Nightclub for 12 months.

He admitted shouting and swearing in the premises on June 9 last year, and committing the offence while on bail.

Procurator fiscal Viki Welton told how the accused's ex-girlfriend came into the nightclub with her new boyfriend and Liddell "started giving her a bit of hassle.

"He was asked to leave, but refused, and there was a struggle as he was forcibly removed," explained Miss Welton.

"He was on bail at the time for three breaches of the peace, and told the arresting officers he had just been released from prison three days before," concluded Miss Welton.

Liddell had sentence deferred for six months, until November 20, on two further complaints.

He admitted threatening his ex-girlfriend that she would receive "a f….g good hiding" on September 6 last year.

Miss Welton said Liddell had texted his ex-girlfriend several times the day before "unsuccessfully trying to rekindle their relationship."

She had recorded the threatening message, which she played to police.
Liddell told officers he hadn't meant to be intimidating and regretted his behaviour.

"He says someone else phoned and he then took the phone over," explained defence agent Rory Bannerman.

Liddell also admitted failing to appear at Jedburgh Sheriff Court on September 28.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond described the accused as "a bully."


A man who obtained money by fraud by selling a games console on the internet site eBay, was fined £150.

Aaron McMillan, 29, of Melrose Court, received cheques from two buyers for £144 and £147 for a games console between December 2006 and January last year.

The court heard he had fully compensated both buyers.
