ANGRY parents in Newcastleton have threatened to take legal action over the council's decision to have a shared head teacher between the school and Stirches.
Councillors controversially passed the proposal by 10 votes to eight at a meeting last week.

But Julie Armstrong, chair of the Newcastleton School Partnership (NSP), said this week that the matter was far from finished.

"We will wait until the
end of the summer holiday and consider our options, which include seeking a judicial review at the Court of Session and lodging a complaint with the Public Services Ombudsman because we believe there is evidence of maladministration by council education officials," she said.

The plan formed part of the hugely contentious Transforming Children's Services (TCS) proposals, although a decision to pair Newcastleton and Stirches was made at the 11th hour, after the full consultation.

Mrs Armstrong added: "This ill-advised and ill-informed decision fills pupils and parents with trepidation about what will happen after the holidays and flies in the face of a petition to retain a designated head which 280 of the 290 households in and around the village supported."
