A 25-YEAR-OLD Burnfoot man pled guilty yesterday to a breach of the peace at his mother's home in Selkirk.
Stephen Scott, of Galalaw Road, was fined £200 for the offence in Curror Street on Tuesday (May 13).
Duns Sheriff Court was told that the series of events that led to his arrest began on May 12 when he was not allowed into his house he shares wit
h his girlfriend in Hawick because he was drunk.
As a result, he travelled to Selkirk and was allowed to stay at his mother's home.
Scott, a forestry worker with Scottish Woodlands, was then left in his mother's home with his sister's children but he continued drinking and became involved in an argument with the downstairs neighbours.
His mother tried to stop him drinking upon her return from shopping in Galashiels but he continued to be aggressive, and started to throw items around the kitchen, resulting in the mother phoning the police.
Defence solicitor Simon Wells said his client had been having problems with his girlfriend and so had stayed at his mother's. He said Scott felt the downstairs neighbours had failed to treat his sister's children well, with one of them being disabled.
Scott also claimed his aggressive behaviour was caused by frustration at himself rather than being aimed at his mother or sister.
Sheriff Kevin Drummond told Scott: "If this is the way you behave towards your family then there is no hope for the rest of us."
