Cornet Ben Graham is riding high as he receives the Common Riding's main sponsorship cheque for 2008 from furniture superstore Co-op NGT.

Mounted on his father Harry's eight-year-old Irish hunter Rolo outside the family's Stirches Road home, Ben, accepted the £2,000 donation fro
m NGT boss Bob Holdstock, left, watched by his Lass Megan Gracie and Common-Riding Committee chairman Ronnie Nichol.

It is the sixth successive year that the furniture, beds and carpets superstore in Selkirk has been a main sponsor of the Common-Riding.

Mr Holdstock commented: "We're delighted to be associated with such a magnificent series of events which reflect great credit on the town and the Common-Riding's hard-working organisers.

"As a local firm we also believe it's important to give something back to communities which are at the heart of our business."

Ronnie Nichol added that the Common-Riding simply would not happen without the generosity of sponsors such as Co-op NGT. "We particularly appreciate that they've supported us year in, year out since 2003. It really has been so encouraging to have had such constant financial backing."
