PROBLEMS with the water supply at Langlands Court, which have forced elderly residents into buying bottled water for more than a year, are to be further investigated by the owners of the building.
The tap water gives off a strange odour and tastes strongly of chlorine – and it is now thought that the pipe network in the building is at the root of the problem.

During a meeting this week with residents and Hawick MP Michael Moore, which was also attended by proprietors Hanover Housing and Scottish Water, it was heard that a solution to the pensioners' foul-tasting tap water is expected imminently.

Mr Moore said: "It was a good meeting and we are seeing progress, with Scottish Water now sure that it is not their supply to the building, and it is the view that there is a problem with the pipe network inside the complex."

A spokesman for Hanover Housing said that the water posed no public health threat, and added: "We are going to undertake work which we are confident will resolve the issue and this will be carried out as soon as we can arrange it."
