KIND-HEARTED mill workers recently saddled up for a race night fund-raiser in aid of the Border Kidney Patient Trust.

Johnstons of Elgin production coordinator Alister Taylor and some of his colleagues, pictured left, got together at Wilton Bowling Club at th
e end of last month and managed to boost the charity's coffers by a whopping £617.

Speaking to the Hawick News, Alister explained: "I was meant to be having a party to celebrate my 54th birthday, but I decided to make it a fund-raiser instead with all the money we raised going to the Border Kidney Patient Trust, in memory of Steven Pearson, who used to work in the mill, but sadly passed away recently."

Border Kidney Patient Trust fund-raising co-ordinator Rolf Brown, also pictured, added: "The fantastic amount of £617 donated by Alister and his friends is very much appreciated and will be used wisely.

"Any monies we receive are purely for the benefit of Borders patients (heart monitors, dialysis machines etc.) or to help finance an extra shift at Borders General Hospital so we can accommodate all local patients instead of them having to travel to the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh."
