Born on May 9, 1908, Jeanie was a binder/body-linker to trade, and spent many years as housekeeper for accountant the late John Welch.

Jeanie married Joe Gass on January 27, 1939, but not long after their wedding he joined the KOSB and never returned home from the Second World War.

An aunt to three generations of family, Jeannie lived the latter part of her life in Park Street, looking after herself until she was 98-and-a-half.

As she was always very active, her family maintained said that she'd get her letter from the Queen, and Jeannie was delighted to reach that milestone last Friday, and was particularly pleased with her card from Her Royal Highness.
