KNITWEAR boss Ken Pasternak has admitted this week that plans for a hotel at the Peter Scott mill in Buccleuch Street are "progressing slowly.
Earlier this year, Mr Pasternak and Pesco board chairman Albert Christensen revealed their proposals to create a new hotel at the rear of the factory.

But although Mr Christensen has received plans for the development, which they had commissioned
to a local architect, the project's future remains uncertain.

Mr Pasternak told the Hawick News: "Albert is currently looking at the plans and, based on them, the next stage would be to get costings and submit a planning application."

"However, at the moment our appetite for investing more in this country is not fantastic, as in the textiles industry we are finding that the Scottish and British governments are not interested in helping us at all, unlike in other European countries such as Italy where companies have been subsidised."

Mr Pasternak added: "We are making everything ready for our proposal for the new hotel, but I have to stress that we are progressing slowly at the moment."

It is proposed that the 26-room hotel would be called either The Peter Scott House Hotel or The Peter Scott Hotel, and would create around 12 new jobs.

Nothing to do with the fact that Peter Scott's is heavily in debt with little opportunity of getting out of it? No? Let's blame the government(s) instead then.

Let's be blunt about this. Do you not think that the government might not consider a company which owes close to 400 thousand in PAYE to be a poor bet? Throwing good money after bad has never been considered sensible.
