HAWICK MSP John Lamont has called for Holyrood chiefs to re-name one of the Scottish Parliament's committee rooms in honour of Bill McLaren.
The Parliament's Corporate Body recently raised the idea of renaming the rooms to recognise the life of influential Scots.

After writing to the Presiding Officer, Mr Lamont has revealed that Bill's name will be included when the Body meets to discuss the various nominations.

"As has been clear over the past week, Bill McLaren was loved and respected by millions of people throughout the world.

"It is understandable then that people will want to celebrate his life by creating a lasting memorial," he said.

"The Scottish Parliament recently asked for nominations of individuals who had made a 'significant contribution to Scotland', in order that the committee rooms could be re-named in their honour.

"Bill McLaren certainly did that, and was a tremendous ambassador for both Scotland and his home town of Hawick, on the world stage."
