WHEN another woman suggested her haircut made her look masculine, Carloline Barclay struck her over the head with a bottle.
The offence happened when the two women met in a nightclub, and left the victim injured and bleeding.

At Jedburgh Sheriff Court, Barclay, 29, of Hassendean Court, who was ejected from the nightclub, admitted assaulting a woman to her injury in Die
sels, on March 1 last year.

Depute fiscal Mark Keane said the two women had been in the nightclub after midnight, when Barclay asked the victim: "Who do you think you are?

"The woman told her to leave her alone," explained Mr Keane.

When the woman asked Barclay: "What have you done to your hair? You look like a boy," the accused struck her over the head with a bottle she was holding.

Mr Keane said the victim was left bleeding from a head wound.
Defence lawyer Rory Bannerman said his client had been "verbally abused by the complainer" prior to the assault.

"When she made this comment about her hair, she struck out and was holding a bottle at the time," he added.

Sheriff Kevin Drummond sentenced Barclay to 100 hours' community service and ordered she be excluded from Diesels nightclub for six months.

"An assault involving the use of a weapon justifies custody," he warned her, "so the alternative is appropriate."
