A HAWICK building firm has been charged with breaching general duties for an employee following an accident which led to the death of a workman.
Plasterer Charlie Wilkinson was run over by a forklift truck travelling the wrong way up a one-way street in Berwick. The 49-year-old died shortly after his release from hospital following treatment for injuries sustained in the incident at Blakewell Gardens, Tweedmouth, in November 2008.

Solicitors representing James Swinton and Co Ltd, of Noble Place, said they were unable to enter a plea when the case was listed at Berwick Magistrates Court two weeks ago.

The Crown Prosecution Service, who brought the case following an investigation by the Health and Safety Executive, urged the bench to refuse jurisdiction on the grounds that it was not suitable for summary hearing.
