Thorterdykes Roadhouse has launched a terrific-tasting 'Cornet's Ale' for the Common-Riding.

The special brown ale is a unique, one-off brew which has been specially commissioned to celebrate Cornet Ben Graham's big year, and the label even bears a picture of him.

Thorterdykes co-owner Andrew Bate, pictured, explained: "The idea for Cornet's Ale was first discussed after last year's Common-Riding.

"We felt it would be a great way for the pub to continue to show its support for the Common-Riding and to give locals and visitors alike the chance to take away an unusual memento of this year's celebrations."

He added: "From the idea stage to the bottles being ready for sale, the whole project has taken almost a year, but we are delighted with the end result."

And paying tribute to the Cornet's Ale, the man of the moment added: "It is an honour to be the first Cornet in memory to have his own beer named after him.

"It really does taste great and I would urge everyone to give it a try during the Common-Riding."
