Angry councillor's paving slab fury

PAVING slabs on the High Street are having to be replaced after being damaged by motorists.
Seven of the slabs at the Tower Knowe end have been broken as a result of drivers mounting the kerb to park their vehicles.

A spokesman from Scottish Borders Council told the Hawick News: "In the longer term bollards may have to be introduced, in consultation with all councillors, if the problem persists."

However, furious Hawick and Hermitage councillor Davie Paterson said this course of action should have been taken at the very start.

"I mentioned having a continuation of the bollards from the previous Streetscape at several meetings, but my pleas fell on deaf ears as I got absolutely no backing," he said.
