Plea for ‘resilient’ Teries

Hawick Community Council has begun to deliver thousands of leaflets in a bid to make the town a ‘resilient community’.

The initiative - supported by local, Scottish and the UK government - allows the community to help itself during an emergency such as flood, fire or severe weather, and Teries are being urged to register their backing.

Having leafleted Mansfield, Weensland, Mayfield, Wilton Dean, Sunnyhill, Langlands, Park View, Silverbuthall, Terraces, Liddesdale, The Village, Stonefield, and Wilton, with all other areas soon to be covered, community council chairperson Marion Short said: “Clearing snow, placing sandbags, providing meals and checking on neighbours are tasks most of us we do, but for Hawick to sign up to the plan, we need volunteers to register, however big or small the contribution.”
