Society members on journey Frae Wulton ti Wellington

ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY: Presiden Iain Scott welcomed a large audience to the sixth lectyure of the season, and despite the inclement weather, a packed town hall heard Ian Landles talk about his trip to New Zealand.

Entitled Frae Wulton ti Wellington – Oor 2011 World Cup Journey, Ian shared his experiences in his own inimitable style with an informative and humorous lecture complemented by a vast number of slides.

As well as showing the sights and sounds of the usual tourist attractions, Ian demonstrated “that you can take the boy out of Hawick, but not Hawick out of the boy” with many slides showing links with the grey auld toon, while his passion for the game of rugby shone through with his thoughts on the matches, teams and players when showing slides of the tournament itself. Giving praise where praise was due, but highly critical of those who damaged the image of a sport he clearly loves.

After a short question-and-answer session, the highly-entertaining and enjoyable evening concluded witha vote of thanks from past-president Ian Lowes.
