Pupils grab centre stage

SENIOR high school pupils hit the high notes in great style ahead of their practical exams in music.

Entertaining a welcoming audience at the Heart of Hawick, the youngsters grabbed the opportunity of playing in public with both hands before facing their examiner.

It was hoped they would gain confidence from the experience of performing and the warm applause and appreciation they received from the audience must surely have encouraged them.

Many instruments, in the shape of bass guitar, cornet, marimba, oboe, piano, and timpani were played, interspersed with several vocal items from some of the girls, giving a good variety of styles and sounds. Indeed, classical music from centuries ago to modern and internet finds and technology-assisted accompaniments were used to good effect.

In order of appearance the performers were: Libby Brandon, Ross Fairbairn, Miwa Magato-Apthort, Lauren Renwick, Corin Anderson, Leanne McFadden, Emily Arnott, Moray Irvine, Anna Douglas, Caroline Lamb, Nathaniel Jones, Hamish Marshall, Maerin Murray and Charlie Marshall.

Hawick Music Live sponsored the concert and would like to thank and congratulate the pupils and their teachers for all their hard work and wish them every success in the exams.
