Journey starts here to change lives forever

THE CHALLENGE has been thrown down to ten willing participants for them to become this year’s Biggest Loser.

The inaugural contest last year, which was won by Leah Lauder, saw contestants lose more than an amazing 18 stone between them.

And competition organiser Stuart Oliver, co-owner of O’Connell Street gym Think Fitness, believes this year’s bunch have the potential to lose even more weight – even though it has been reduced from six months to just 19 weeks.

He said: “Following on from the great success of last year’s competition the feedback we received whetted our appetite to do it again.

“This time round everybody is well aware of what is involved in the competition and that’s a massive bonus as they know exactly what they’re letting themselves in for.

“It’s a pity we couldn’t have accommodated everybody but from the ten lucky enough to be successful in the ballot we feel we’ve got a great bunch that will surpass last year’s weight loss.”

Competitors last year shed 231lbs of fat and thinned down by 181.5 inches through a variety of gym participation, exercise classes and healthy eating regimes. And it will be more of the same for the latest group as they try to become Hawick’s next Biggest Loser.

Stuart added: “Participants are encouraged to come to the gym three times a week and every couple of weeks there will be a group class as well as a weekly weigh-in, which will give them the discipline to better themselves week upon week.

“There will be dietary advice and eating plans and contestants from last year, Jan Pringle and Tracy Gibson, will be acting as mentors to help everyone through the process.

“Along with the experienced and qualified staff it has all the ingredients to be a huge success.”
