Hawick News comment

The buzz of activity around Hawick in recent weeks has been a real credit to the town with the staging of two excellent community projects – the high school's creative fashion show and Hawick Opera Society's 'Anything Goes'.

The fashion show highlighted everything that is good about the school – and the costumes, creativity and enthusiasm were a joy to behold. That enthusiasm was shared by the opera performers, whose brilliant singing and wonderful dancing were well received.

This week, the community spotlight turns to the Reivers Festival which, over the last few years, has quickly grown in stature. And this event will be further enhanced in April with the musical 'A Reiver's Moon', the tickets for which are already going well.

At the same time, two local campaigns are gathering pace: the bid to find a suitable bone marrow donor for toddler Alex Matthews has been stepped up with Hawick Rugby Club leading the way; while Hazel Cameron's Cancer Research campaign has also attracted a great deal of attention.
