Festive spirit arrives in hawick
HUNDREDS of children in a variety of colourful costumes helped sprinkle festive spirit on the town on Saturday at the annual Christmas parade.
From tiny toddlers and schoolchildren, through to enthusiastic grown-ups and smiling pensioners, the celebrations typified the Teri spirit and warmed the hearts on a bitterly cold afternoon.
And with Santa Claus himself, who was joined in his sleigh by Summer Festival Princess Ellie Hatton and attendants Elyssa Hope and Rhianna Adams, spreading good cheer and plenty of Ho Ho Ho! the event has been hailed as one of the best.
There was a real carnival atmosphere as music boomed out from the Scout Fellowship Pipe Band, Hawick Pipe Band, the Saxhorn Band and floats, and participants beamed smiles from ear to ear.
The high number of people taking part included Robbie the Bear, Drumlanrig, Burnfoot, Trinity and Wilton primary schools, Girls’ Brigade, the Fire Brigade, Hawick Pantomime Group, Sam Deans Fitness, Buccleuch Care Home and Hawick Congregational Church.
The sound of loud cheers echoed around the centre of the town and culminated at the Common Haugh.
The event raised £750. The winner of the best float was Sam Deans Fitness. Best walking group –Buccleuch Care Home; best children’s group –Wilton School; and most humorous were the huskies at the end.
