Yone's a guid sign eh? A was doon throw the tunnel on Friday for the Muckle Toon's Common-Riding.
What super weather they hed, an' the crowds were oot in force. A heard there was record numbers this year.

A heedeed doon early enough ti sei the Cornet git the flag an' watch the first cry'in o' the fair. The boy stood up on the back o' a horse a
n' shouted eet oot ti the packed streets.

Then A watched the chase. Mei what a steep hill they galloped up, a was fair jiggert juist watchin' thum. No es jiggert es A was yince a'd clim' up ti the monument ti watch the horses gaun roond threi times mind. A was sweetin' buckets. Mun it's huge thone monument. It's the first time A'd been up ti'd an' frae the road it looks big, bit when eer right underneath eet it's massive.

The riders were a' smartly turned oot es usual. Except yin, a noticed whae was wearin' jeans an' a T-Shirt. There was a fair few comments aboot that an' a was later telt it was an interviewer for the BBC whae was makin' a film. Well, a hink hei should sek his researcher for A hink it was a bit disrespectful ti be dressed like that, hei could've at least made the effort. Niver mind, a dare say it didnae spoil onybody's day.

A sampled some Barley Bannock on the way back inti the toon. It was right guid. Somebody says it was made in Hawick tae. Mind A wasni si keen on the sa'teed herrin', bit a suppose that's juist a mitter o' taste.

The saicond cryin' o' the fair was even mair enthusiastic an' a grand cheer went roond. A'v niver seen es mony folk in Langholm, an' judgin' be the range o' accents they'd come frae a' ower the place ti enjoy the day.

It was that hot that some o' thum went dookin' in the river, or paddlin' at least. A hev ti admit, A was tempted masel.

There was a team o' helpers wi green ties on, whae duin various jobs frae cairy'in' the emblems ti dishin' oot the sa'teed herrin'. Mun, they juist wadeed inti the river afore the horses crossed, without even rollin' their troosers up. An speakin' o' emblems, ee should've seen the size o' the thistle that was caireed roond the toon. Mun A thought A was guid at growin' weeds bit that must hev been some kind o' record. It was huge.

There was a lot o' Hawick folk in the crowds for there's a right warm friendliness atween Hawick and Langholm. The sunshine continued a' day and there was a lot o' reed faces ower at the Castleholm where there was a' kinds o' activites gaun oan afore oo a' danced oor way back ti the Toon Hall where the flag was handed back. A fair enjoyed eet, weel duin Langhom. If eev no been, git yersel doon nixt year. It's right guid.
