BURNFOOT
A QUIZ for WRI funds, compiled by Margaret Falconer, raised more than £100. The winner was R. W. Brodie, Bramblewood, Cavers. Derek Inglis, of Burnfoot Post Office, kindly agreed to make the draw from the 20 all-correct entries. Thanks to all who took part.
Thanks are also due to members who baked and helped at the Common-Riding events.
Plans are in hand to celebrate the institute's 40th birthday later this year.

DENHOLM
Rainfall in the village during June amounted to 5.36 inches, which contrasts with the previous month's low of one inch. The earliest part of the month was warm and dry with temperatures into the 20s centigrade, with 23°C recorded on the 9th.
Towards the end of the month low pressure dominated resulting in a mixture of sunshine and showers.

NEWCASTLETON
POLICE report that an attempt to force entry into the generator room at the medical centre in Moss Road was made between Tuesday-Thursday, July 1-3. it is believed that the culprit(s) were trying to gain access to diesel. Nothing was stolen but detectives would like to hear from anyone with information on the incident.
A TEENAGER has been charged with breach of the peace following a fracas in Moss Place in the early hours of Saturday. The accused, a 17-year-old male from Manchester, was arrested after allegedly shouting, swearing and challenging others to fight. A report on the incident, which saw the teenager being held in custody until sober, will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
A 45-YEAR-OLD Dalkeith man has been charged with two counts of assault following a disturbance in Moss Place on Saturday night. He will appear in court at a later date.
