WRI president Molly Marshall welcomed members to the February meeting, and introduced Alan Porterfield, from Jedburgh, whose illustrated presentation took the ladies on a wonderful trip from Denver, Colerado, to San Francisco and Californi
a. Aided by slides and appropriate background music, Alan also included light-hearted commentary about his holiday. The talk was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
The competition for a photograph of a tree was won by Sharon McKenzie; 2, Elaine Turnbull; 3, Janice Palmer.
COGSMILL
THIS month's WRI meeting was held at vice-president Margaret Young's home due to the snowy weather.
President Isa Anderson welcomed guest speaker Rachel Thomson, whose talk was on the subject of the Bowen Technique and how it works on the body by self-healing. Three members were used for a demonstration which garnered positive feedback. Ebie Richardson gave the vote of thanks.
Competition for four pieces of tablet was won by Margaret Young; 2, Mary Mactaggart; 3, Sylvia Grieve.
Recipes were handed out for a rich Jamaican loaf for the Ann Wallis Competition.
The next meeting is on March 11 at Hawick Veterinary Surgery.
DENHOLM
The Walk the Walk coffee morning is being held in the village hall on March 7 from 10am to noon. Proceeds to The MoonWalk Edinburgh 2009 in aid of breast cancer.
The 1st Denholm Boys' Brigade is holding a coffee morning in the church hall, tomorrow, from 10am to noon.
Denholm Pre-School Playgroup is hosting a quiz night (teams of four) on March 20 in the Cross Keys. More information from Philippa Parish on 870728.

MINTO WRI president Sheila Marshall welcomed members and two visitors to the February meeting, and also gave a number of apologies from those unable to attend on what was a very cold evening.
A 'hands-on' night followed with the opportunity to learn handicraft skills such as crochet and rug making from fellow members. It proved to be an enjoyable and satisfying evening.
The results of the competition for a hand-made pen holder, which attracted eight entries, were – 1, Ann Reid; 2, Sheila Marshall; 3, Pat Jardine; 4, Ann Forrest.
The winner of the competition for three yellow hyacinths was Chris Nichol.
