THE following poem entitled 'The Colour Bussed' was written and recited by Common-Riding Chief Guest Dr George Thorburn, as part of his address during the Colour-Bussing.
Oor Colour of Gold and Azure hue,
Is held on high in Zephyr Blue.
By Callants linked in yin long line,
That binds oor toon frae days lang syne.

The colour is oor silver thread.
It joins a' Teris, baith quick and dead.
The Banner Blue held tae the sky,
Like Teri spirits flying free and high.

Hawick's independence born of old
Shall forever fly in Blue and Gold
Peace be oor portion in future stride,
Oor customs, traditions be exalted in pride.

Oh trusted Cornet on fiery steed,
Fly oor flag as in ancient deed
Eer lovely lass has bussed it well
Junes days are nigh…..oor spirits swell

Oh Banner Blue wi Cross of Gold
Fly owre oo a' as in days of old
Let a' the Teri spirits soar
As The Hornshole story unfolds once more
