A RALLYING cry has gone out to Turnbulls from the town and further afield to attend the international Clan Gathering next month.

The programme of events on July 18, which have been organised by the Turnbull Clan Association, start with the muster of pipes and drums at 11a
m for a parade along the High Street, followed by the unveiling of a wonderful new sculpture to commemorate one of the many renowned Border family names.

It will be the first time in living memory that Turnbulls have raised a standard in the Borders.

Speaking on behalf of the Association, George Turnbull said: "It will be a great day out for Turnbulls and everyone who wants to come along. A strong contingent from overseas, particularly the Americas, have already booked their places and they want to meet as many Turnbulls and local Borders as possible. If you live in the area or are related to Turnbull, Turnball, Trimble, Turnbol, Trimbell, Trumbell, Trumbill, Turnbul, Tremell or Turnbell, come along and join in!

It is hoped that Hawick will become a place of pilgrimage for Turnbulls from all over the world.

The major new artwork has been sculpted by Innerleithen artist, Angela Hunter, and is now being cast at Powderhall Bronze in Edinburgh. Fundraising continues to meet the cost of £100,000 plus, visit www.turnbullclanscotland.com or contact George or Dale Turnbull on 374738.

This prestigious public artwork will be sited at Heart of Hawick. Proceedings will be opened by Hawick Honorary Provost, Zandra Elliot, while the unveiling will be carried out by TCA president, Wally Turnbull. The address will be given by renowned local historian, Alistair Moffat, all of which will be followed by a Reivers re-enactment in Slitrig Crescent.

The day rounds off with a dinner in the specially erected Turnbull Tent at the Volunteer Park. Everyone is welcome to buy a ticket, priced at £25 each, and includes a Scocha concert. Scocha only tickets are available from the Turnbull Ticket Office at 41 High Street Hawick or contact the Association.
