Somebody was oan aboot watching Cowboy fillums the other day. Mun it's been ages since av watcheet a guid cowboy fillum. A mean the guid yins wi John Wayne an' folk like that in thum. "Git off yer horse an' drink yer milk." Did hei really ever say that? Well, no' in a Hawick accent onywei. Thone were guid fillums weren't they.
A watcheet a mair recent yin no' si lang back, Brokeback Mountain a hink it was ca'd. It was definitely no' a John Wayne fillum. A likeet the kind wi the cowboys an' the Indians. They were aye fightin' bit for some reason Hollywood made eet seem like it wasni real.
Mind, A was aye on the Indians' side mei. Av aye liked ti support the underdoag. The cowboys aye seemed fair full o' thumsels, din't they, bit the Indians were defendin' their ain land. Except when they were robbin' trains. Bit then again, the trains an' the folk in thum were invaders ti thame.
Hinkin' aboot eet, it kinna pit mei in mind o' oor ancestors, the reivers. The fillum-makers aye made oot that the Indians were the baddies. A suppose that's a bit like oor reivers ana, the folk whae wrote their history wrote eet fri the other side o' the argument. Bit oo ken different diven't oo?
