I COULDN'T believe what I was reading when I came across the recent articles in the Daily Record and News of the World on Scottish Borders Council's decision to spend almost £20,000 on a new coffee-making facility at its Newtown headquarters.
Apparently, the decision was made at the request of chief executive David Hume, in consultation with leader David Parker, depute leaders Neil Calvert and Alec Nichol and other members, to improve the quality of coffee available to councillors, guests and to officers who use the committee-room facilities.
My child attends Trinity school and for the past year has had no access to a teacher in both PE and music due to financial restraints.
This situation is to carry on into the next academic year, which means teachers at Trinity will have to try and meet the full physical education and music curriculum, something they have not had to do for many years previously when qualified specialists came to the school regularly.
At least I know when these important people at council headquarters are discussing school budgets, they can do so over a good-quality cappuccino!
