I AM writing to you in the hope that your readers may be able to help me track down my ancestry.
My great-grandparents left Hawick for Australia in 1913 and settled in Tenterfield in northern New South Wales. They were Thomas Rutherford and Ellen Davidson Murray from Teviothead/Hawick.
Thomas was the son of James and Margaret Rutherford. He had siblings, Euphemia, Walter, John, Jessie, Elisabeth (Bessie), Betsy and James. Bessie Rutherford became Bessie Pryde and lived at 58 High Street in 1970.
Ellen Davidson Murray was the daughter of Robert and Mary Murray. I believe that her siblings were Jessie, Jane, Walter, Mary, Mina or Mira, Robert, John, James, Elizabeth, Alexander and Bella.
I am coming to Hawick from Australia on Tuesday, June 29, (departing Australia on June 21), and I would like to meet any surviving relatives while in the town. I can be contacted by email prior to June 21 on the address below.
