Hawick Pipe Band hit the high notes recently with fifth place at the British Pipe Band Championships.
Competing in Grade 4A, the band travelled to Birmingham on June 28 for the second major pipe band championship of the season, and after a good performance in qualification, the Teries followed up with a fine show in the final to finish third equal on
points (which was reduced to fifth place on ensemble preference).
Band members were especially delighted to get third place for drumming - given that the average age of the corps is just 14. And this is just reward for the effort put in by the young corps – who make weekly trips to Bathgate for expert tuition from Callum and Julie Firth of Torphichen and Bathgate Pipe Band.

Pipe Major Cameron Renwick
Speaking after their success, Pipe Major Cameron Renwick said: "We had a really good run in the final, and we are actually pretty disappointed not to have finished better placed – but lack of numbers counted against us again. There is a huge potential in the band right now – all we need are the numbers."
Cameron continued: "It's so frustrating to have so many quality
ex-pipers and drummers in Hawick, apparently reluctant to get back involved with the band. With a few more pipers, particularly, we would be a real force to be reckoned with."
