THIS weekend's hottest ticket at the Tower Mill cinema looks certain to be the hugely-popular adventure movie of the year, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The hotly-anticipated
fourth film in the Indiana Jones series sees an older Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) back in action when he becomes entangled in a Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind mysterious artefacts known as the Crystal Skulls.

The Soviet Union agents are led by Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett), and Indy is aided by his ex-lover Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen), the greaser Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf), and fellow adventurer Mac (Ray Winstone). John Hurt and Jim Broadbent also play fellow academics.

However, if all-action hero Indiana doesn't tick any of your boxes, a complete change in genre tonight sees the screening of Oscar-nominated best animated feature film Persepolis – the poignant coming-of-age story, in English, of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that starts during the Islamic Revolution. It shows young Marjane growing up in communist Tehran before rebelling at college in Austria. And the predominantly black and white animation is used to poke fun at the feisty heroine, making political points easy to swallow.

Next Thursday and Friday, Oscar-nominated thriller Gone Baby Gone – starring Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris and Amy Ryan – will be screened. Recommended by Edinburgh Filmhouse, this flick sees two Boston detectives investigating a little girl's kidnapping, which ultimately turns into a crisis both professionally and personally.
