HAWICK MUSIC CLUB
HAWICK Music Club has announced that Tower Mill is to be the new venue for future concerts.
Club president Gordon McDonald revealed their move from Drumlanrig School at the recent annual general meeting, stating: "We are delighted at the move and l
ook forward to enjoying the enhanced facilities that the theatre offers both audiences and artistes".
Gordon Macdonald told the Hawick News: "The Music Club provides a unique opportunity in the town to hear professional musicians. If you enjoy Classic FM, you will enjoy our programme. Come and listen to music played live in a top-class setting that is comfortable, friendly, and informal."
He added: "Tickets represent great value compared with city prices - or you can take advantage of our season ticket for all seven concerts costing only £35, with concessions £30, students £6 and families £70." For further details phone 375250 or e-mail hawickmusicclub@yahoo.com.
Elected to the committee were President-Gordon Macdonald; Secretary–Pat Sutherland; Treasurer–Libby Mackay; Publicity Secretary–Susan Donaldson; and Mary Bonsor, Sheila Marshall, Bill Macdonald and David Mackay. Honorary Life Members Brian Bonsor and Jim Letham were thanked for their role as Music Advisers.
The AGM was preceded by a concert given by Mosaic, the all female vocal ensemble from Kelso under the direction of well-known local singer Grace Payne, with Harris Playfair at the piano. The appreciative audience enjoyed an evening that ranged from classical favourites, folk songs and spirituals, to songs from the shows and jazz, before ending with a foot-tapping rendition of "The Rhythm of Life".

50+ WALKERS
On Sunday 17 walkers set out to walk in the Cheviots.
The starting point was Skirl Naked in the Harthope Valley. Continueing on up the Carey Burn and on to Broadstruthers for a lunch stop. The weather had been warm and sunny until after lunch, when rumbles of thunder were heard, followed by a short shower. From Broadstruthers the walk continued to Broadhope Hill and on to the Hawsen Burn. A climb then up to Steel Crags and over Broad Hill. There was a very heavy shower at this point as the group continued down to Midleton Old Town and back to Skirl Naked.

PROBUS CLUB
Following the 65th anniversary of D-Day, club member Jim Stirling gave a very explicit presentation of his part in, and memories of, the historic landings.
Jim served in the Clearance Section, a branch of the Royal Navy, which had requisitioned trawlers and crews as mine sweepers. The mortality rate was exceptional, three mines destroyed often meant a lost sweeper. The actual landings were perilous as the Germans continued to lay mines throughout from East and West of the beaches.
Richard Nicol gave a vote of thanks. The next meeting is the June 25.
