HAWICK Summer Festival is launched today with a ceremony that will mark the start of an impressive nine-day programme.

Summer Festival Flower Princess Charmain Bremner is flanked by attendants Fiona Grieve-Mckean, left, and Melissa Mullin.
The annual festival is back again with local favourites such as the Pram Race, Midnight Walk, Party on the Pitch and It'z a Knockout.
And with a packed programme that boasts several events every day and night, Teries should be clearing their diaries to ensure they give it their backing.
Summer Festival organising secretary Carly Easton told the Hawick News: "There really is something for everyone during the festival. As a committee we work really hard to offer such a varied programme of events, and are especially proud of the Midnight Walk and Party on the Pitch, which are going from strength to strength."
She went on: "We hope the Hawick community comes out to support all of the various events and has fun, from the pram race tomorro to the guided walks, restaurant nights, quiz and the final of the Weel-Kent Faces, to name just a few."
Anyone wishing to attend the guided walks is reminded that no dogs are permitted.
And ahead of next Saturday's Party on the Pitch at the Volunteer Park, although townsfolk are urged to take a picnic, they are also reminded that glass bottles will not be allowed.
