Burnfoot Carnival was played out in dry weather and fine style last weekend when the community rallied round to make it the most successful yet.
The hugely-popular annual event, which is organised by Burnfoot Community Council, was blessed with large crowds of folk of all ages revelling in the fun-filled atmosphere.

And Community Council chairman Richard Knight said it was the best yet. He
told the Hawick News: "The day was a great success and we are delighted with how it all went. The carnival is going from strength to strength every year, and this year we had a lot of comments that there was a lot more to do, so it is definitely on the up."

The day began with Carnival Queen Shaunie Moore and Cornet Hughie Joe Hutchison, both pictured, and Provost Zandra Elliot being driven in a 1929 Daimler, courtesy of Border's Vintage Experience. led by the Hawick Scout Fellowship Pipe Band to the Carnival grounds. Those in the popular fancy dress parade then made their way from the shops and once the Provost had crowned the proud Carnival Queen, she wished everyone well in their duties.

The community was well entertained throughout the afternoon with a magic show, the fire brigade, face painting, live performances, funfair rides and the Scout band. There was also a car boot sale and a beer tent.

A mini rugby tournament was a new attraction with Trinity Primary School the winners.

Mr Knight added: "We were delighted with the turnout and the whole day was blessed with large crowds."
