THERE'S something to suit all tastes on the folk menu at this weekend's traditional music festival at Newcastleton.
Whether playing, competing or watching and listening, the annual event, which is being staged for the 40th time, will see the village come alive with a packed programme of competitions, ceilidhs and concerts.
A festival spokesperson told us: "We a
re a friendly festival and we think we've got the formula just about right for what will be our 40th annual event. We try to provide something for everyone, including informal sessions in the pubs, a whole host of competitions and the hugely popular concerts tonight and tomorrow night."
And issuing an open invitation to young musicians to come along and showcase their talents, the spokesperson added: "Children are always welcome, without them there will be no festivals in the future. There are also specific competitions and workshops for the under-16s."
Literary fans are also being well catered for with the curtain set to rise on a special concert in the village hall to celebrate the work of poet and song writer Willie Scott.
The event, at 7.30pm tonight, will be hosted by Alison McMorland and will include readings and songs by Borders entertainers from the book Herd Laddie O the Glen: Songs of a Border Shepherd, which she compiled.
