PROUD Teri Caitlin Weir has come out tops in a Borders-wide competition because she loves her town at the festive season.

The nine-year-old Burnfoot Primary five pupil, pictured, won a pink digital camera in the contest, which was run by Radio Borders and challenged youngsters to write about why they thought their town was great at Christmas.

Caitlin, who was one of five winners, wrote: "Hawick has Christmas carols and a school choir, good hills for sledging with friends and an ice rink at Beanscene. We have a huge Christmas tree as big as jupiter.

At school we have a Christmas party and Santa brings presents to good children and coal to bad children. We also have Christmas celebrations and we have more Christmas charities and lots of busy people full of Christmas joy."

As part of her prize, Caitlin took part in the breakfast show with Radio Borders DJ Stuart McCulloch.

Teacher Dianne Murphy said: "Myself, the class and the whole school are so proud of Caitlin. All the primary five pupils wrote super stories about why Hawick is the best town to be in at Christmas."
